Admittedly Spell Checking is not an exciting feature. However, with InDesign's Dynamic Spelling you can check/correct your spelling as you go. Also with Autocorrect you can correct your common mistyped words automatically as you type them. In this episode I'll show you how to enable Autocorrect and enter your own Autocorrect words.

Often we start out formatting a document manually then later on we wish that we had used Character Styles for that manual formatting that we've done. In this episode I will show you how to find text that has manual overrides applied to it and replace it with Style Sheets.

One issue that former QuarkXPress users run into all the time is taking the extra step to group their objects together first before resizing them. In InDesign CS2 not only is this not necessary, but it may also cause frustration with the way text sizes are represented after the objects are scaled. In this episode I'll show you the best practices for resizing and I will also show you how to correct the text issues caused by grouping first.

Adobe InDesign has some amazing layout tools. However, one of the graphic features it borrows from Adobe Illustrator is Compound Paths. We often here about how well InDesign works with Photoshop. In this episode I'll show you how to work with Illustrator files in InDesign. Take advantage of the vector similarities by not only being able to place native Illustrator files, but also copy and paste Illustrator vectors so that you can use them as frames in InDesign.

Adobe InDesign can create PDFs natively. In this episode we'll see a rarely used feature that allows us to create rollover effects that work beautifully in PDF files. Your PDF files will be interactive. InDesign allows us to create buttons and using the States palette we can create rollover effects.

This isn't your grandfather's type on a path. InDesign has some hidden special effects that will make your type on a path much more compelling. Granted Type on a Path is not a new concept and has been around in Illustrator for years. However, no other application out there can handle Type on a Path as well as InDesign CS2. Don't beleive me? Watch this episode then.

Although Adobe InDesign CS2 is an outstanding print application, it can also do a great job of creating interactive content for PDF or the web. The key to creating an interactive document lies your ability to create Hyperlinks. In this episode well see how to create Hyperlinks and URLs from scratch. Then we'll export the InDesign document to PDF to take it for a spin.

InDesign's Eye Dropper Tool offers more than meets the eye. Sampling colors is child's play. With InDesign CS2 you can sample just about anything thing and reapply it over and over again. In this episode we'll learn how to sample colors from images and apply those colors to text. We'll also see a neat trick that allows you to sample frame attributes and apply them to other frames.

OpenType fonts are the new standard! Any new fonts you buy today will most likely be in OpenType format and the beauty is that InDesign CS2 takes complete advantage of them. In this episode you'll see how to unlock the power of the OpenType fonts you already have!

At the end of the day it’s all about what we get OUT of InDesign that matters. Whether you’re printing proofs to your printer or exporting to PDF, you have specific settings for your environment. In this episode you’ll learn to take advantage of InDesign’s Presets to streamline your daily output.

Why do we use Paragraph & Character Styles in our layouts? We do so to speed up our workflows and to provide consistency to our layouts. We’ll now you have a 3rd option and it’s called Object Styles. Object Styles allow you to format your frames and their contents quickly and if you ever need to make global changes you can simply update the Object Style and everything in your layout changes accordingly. If you know the benefits of working with Paragraph & Character Styles, then you owe it to yourself to check out Object Styles in this episode.

Now you can create really sophisticated tables in InDesign CS2. Your tables can contain text or graphics and best of all they can be created dynamically by importing tables from Microsoft Word or Excel. In this Episode you’ll see how to create tables from scratch as well as how to created them from Excel.

Nested Styles is definitely one of my favorite features of InDesign CS2. With a Nested Style you can apply elaborate formatting to your text as you type or after the fact. It’s all based on the logic that you set up for the style and it could be something simple as a lead in or as complex as the styling in a classified ad or catalog.

Every time you place an image in InDesign, chances are you have to execute a fitting command to make it fit in the frame or area that you specified. In this episode of the Creative Suite Podcast I’ll show you ways to do it most efficiently. You’ll also see how to better integrate the Bridge into your workflow.
